Overview

Contre L'oubli ("the App") is a personal journaling application. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your data. The core principle of the App is that your journal is yours: your data stays on your device except in the specific, limited cases described below.

The developer does not operate any server. The App is designed so that no server operated by the developer is required.

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to any server operated by the developer:

• Journal entries, including text and attached images
• Mood records
• AI reflections generated by the App
• Questions extracted from reflections, including the ones you choose to keep
• App settings and preferences

The developer does not collect, store, or have access to this data.

Data Sent to Third Parties

The App sends data to third-party services only in the following cases, and only with your explicit configuration:

1. Anthropic (Claude API)

The AI reflection feature is optional and requires you to provide your own Anthropic API key. When a reflection is generated, the following data is sent to Anthropic's API:

• Your journal text for the relevant period
• Your mood records for that period, if you recorded any (sent as a label such as "somewhat pleasant" — the numeric score is not sent)
• Your Oura Ring health data for that period, if the Oura integration is enabled
• The questions you have chosen to keep, if any

Attached images themselves are never sent. The only thing sent about images is how many are attached to a given day.

After a reflection has been generated, the text of that reflection is sent to Anthropic's API once more in order to extract the questions it contains.

Timing: weekly reflections are generated automatically the next time you open the App after the period they cover has closed. Monthly, yearly, and all-time reflections are generated only when you request them. In every case, data is transmitted only at the moment a reflection is generated.

Data sent via the Anthropic API is not used to train Anthropic's models. Anthropic's standard API data retention period is 7 days, after which logs are deleted. Please refer to Anthropic's privacy policy for details.

2. Oura (Oura Cloud API)

The Oura Ring integration is optional. To use it, you must register your own API application with Oura and enter the resulting Client ID and Client Secret into the App. The App ships with no Oura credentials of its own, and the developer plays no part in your connection to Oura.

If you connect your Oura account, the App retrieves the following health data from the Oura Cloud API:

• Sleep score and sleep duration
• Readiness score
• Heart rate variability (HRV) and resting heart rate
• Body temperature deviation
• Steps and active calories

Oura data is not stored on your device. It is retrieved each time a reflection is generated, used as material for that reflection, and not retained afterwards. Please refer to Oura's privacy policy for details on how Oura handles your data.

Credential Storage

The following credentials are stored in the device's Keychain. All of them are saved so that they are available only on this device while it is unlocked; they are not synced to iCloud Keychain and are not included in backups.

• Your Anthropic API key
• The Client ID and Client Secret of your Oura API application
• Your Oura access and refresh tokens

None of these are transmitted to any server operated by the developer. As stated above, the developer operates no server.

Notifications

All notifications the App sends are local notifications composed on your device. No data is transmitted anywhere in order to deliver them.

Export

You can export your journal as Markdown or JSON. Where the exported file goes is your choice, made through the iOS share sheet. The temporary file used for the export is deleted both when sharing completes and when it is cancelled.

Widget

The App shares an App Group (group.com.peripheria.PlainJournal) with its widget extension, but the widget currently reads no journal data at all.

Health Data

Oura health data is used exclusively as optional material for AI reflections. It is never sold, shared with third parties (other than Anthropic, and only when you generate a reflection with the feature enabled), or used for advertising. You can disconnect your Oura account and disable this feature at any time.

Your Control

• All journal data can be deleted within the App.
• You can delete your Anthropic API key at any time.
• You can delete the Client ID and Client Secret of your Oura API application at any time.
• You can disconnect your Oura account at any time.

When You Delete the App

Deleting the App removes the app data stored on your device, including your journal entries, AI reflections, questions, and settings.

However, credentials held in the Keychain — your Anthropic API key, the Client ID and Client Secret of your Oura API application, and your Oura tokens — remain on the device after the App is deleted, as a matter of how iOS behaves. They are restored if you reinstall the same app.

To remove those credentials completely, delete your API key, delete your Oura API application credentials, and disconnect your Oura account in the App's settings before deleting the App.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
